Top Tips For Healthy Feet
Don't ignore foot pain - it's not normal! If the pain persists, see a podiatrist!
Look for changes in colour or temperature of your feet, thick or discoloured nails and cracks or cuts in the skin. Peeling or scaling on the soles of the feet could indicate athlete's foot. Any growth on the foot should be investigated.
Wash and dry your feet regularly, especially between the toes.
Trim toenails straight across, but not too short. Be careful not to cut nails in the corners or on the sides. People with diabetes, poor circulation or heart problems should not treat their own feet - they are more prone to infection.
Make sure your shoes fit properly. Purchase new shoes later in the day when your feet tend to be at their largest. Wear the right shoe i.e. walking shoes for walking. Alternate shoes; don't wear the same pair every day.
Avoid walking barefooted - your feet will be more prone to injury and infection. At the beach or when wearing sandals, remember sun block.
Be cautious when using home remedies for foot ailments; you might turn a small problem into a major one!
